This cozy, family-owned restaurant is not just about food—it’s about love. Servanthood is their love language, and it shines through in everything they do. Their cooking is pure comfort. The best part? They’re willing to accommodate food restrictions without hesitation. I had a Vegetable Jibarito made with Puerto Rican avocado, lightly sautéed bell peppers, lettuce, tomato, and onions (no cheese or mayo). You can add rice on the side—I tried a small portion and it was so good, I wished I had ordered the full side meatless Arroz con Gandules. I also tried a meatless Alcapurria, that was truly amazing—it was freshly made, full of flavor, and perfectly crispy and crunchy. My husband ordered the Tripleta sandwich—stuffed with chicken, ham, and lechón. Both sandwiches were not only delicious but also the largest we’ve ever had. We ate half and took the rest home. The seasoning was spot-on. Their Chicken Pastelillos are flaky, flavorful, and generously filled with their own rotisserie chicken. Absolutely amazing! This place is family-oriented, authentic, and filled with flavor. A hidden gem where you feel like part of the family from the moment you walk in.

This place is such a gem! The atmosphere was super cozy and welcoming, and the jibarito was hands down the best I’ve ever had—so fresh and the steak was unbelievably tender. Honestly, it felt like we were eating at a family member’s house with how kind and genuine the service was. I’m so glad we found this spot and we will definitely be back!

Let me start this review by saying there are a few decent Puerto Rican Food places in this area but La Cueva Del Indio Cafe is the best around and it’s because the food is fresh authentic flavorful and the prices are very fair! I had the pleasure of chatting with the proprietor. He is a great dedicated man to his Community, Mission and Entrepreneurship. The kindness of the owner and workers here alone makes me want to give this place five stars. This is a fantastic locally owned spot that is well connected with the community.. I had the tripleta and a pincho. I’m not usually a fan of chicken Pinchos, but I thought it was pretty good. The barbecue sauce was actually delicious and I’m pretty picky when it comes to barbecue sauce. The tripleta is also good - huge portion with lots of meat. I am excited to go back and try the jibarito & their weekend special sancocho

We live on the far suburbs so we have to drive to Chicago for PR food. This place just became our favorite!!! They have the fried food that I love and entre dishes that my wife likes. The alcapurias amd papa rolleno were great. The triplets sandwich is huge and delicious. Chulata con arroz is great. I forgot to take a picture before eating, so I only have a picture of half the sandwich. Very friendly service and manager is great. Coming back here for sure! Easy 5 star.

I only gave it 5 stars because that's all it would allow me. This isn't a hidden gem it is a GOLD MINE!! The people are sooo friendly from the moment you walk in the door, the service is spectacular and the food is beyond what words can describe. I can definitely say there will not be much talking at the table, and if there is it will be about how great the food, the people and the atmosphere is at La Cueva del Indio. Highly Recommend!!!!

Today I discovered what I truly believe is one of the best hidden gems in Chicago, La Cueva Del Indio Cafe. I ordered the Puerto Rican steak sandwich, and it was absolutely incredible. Every bite was packed with flavor, perfectly seasoned, and made with real care. The quality of the food is outstanding, easily a 10 out of 10. It’s been a long time since I’ve had a meal that impressed me this much. What really stood out to me was how fresh everything tasted. You can tell the ingredients are high quality and the food is made from scratch with authentic Puerto Rican flavor. The sandwich had just the right amount of seasoning, the meat was tender, and the bread was toasted perfectly. Everything came together so well that it honestly reminded me of the kind of home-cooked meal you only get from someone who loves what they do. It’s not easy to find Puerto Rican food that tastes this good, and La Cueva Del Indio Cafe definitely sets the bar high. The atmosphere is welcoming, the staff is friendly, and you can feel the pride they put into their food. If you’re searching for the best Puerto Rican food in Chicago, this is the place to go. It’s a true hidden gem, and once you try it, you’ll definitely want to come back. You will not be disappointed.
